Women Working Together
As part of Day Pitney's commitment to diversity in general and particularly to the success and retention of women at the firm, we created a women's initiative called Women Working Together (WWT®). Women Working Together lives up to its name in all of the programming and events we sponsor. Each year, WWT® provides mutual support, professional growth and community service opportunities to women attorneys at the firm and to clients. WWT creates an atmosphere of camaraderie, enthusiasm and laughter for women attorneys that enriches the law firm experience and provides opportunities to meet and network with our clients on a professional, yet personal, level.
What Is WWT?
The mission of WWT is to:
- enhance opportunities for Day Pitney women to succeed and become leaders in the legal community;
- provide a forum for women lawyers at Day Pitney and women in the legal and business community as a whole to meet and develop professional opportunities;
- maintain a supportive environment for women at Day Pitney; and
- support women’s initiatives in the community at large.
WWT Is ... Camaraderie
WWT hosts annual golf outings in Hartford and New Jersey for clients; they involve clinics and good-spirited competitive play "for women only." Women Golfing Together is an exciting day at the links for players of all levels. The outings offer a valuable introduction for novices who seek the opportunity to be part of the high-stakes business discussions that often take place on fairways and greens, and provide an excellent opportunity for socializing and networking with our clients in a relaxed and comfortable environment.
WWT also has a tradition of other client networking events in close proximity to our various offices. WWT in Boston hosted the Divas Uncorked – a group of professional African-American women, who started out as a wine club and evolved into an amazing and successful business enterprise. WWT hosted a Chocolate & Wine Tasting Reception in Greenwich, where WWT members socialized and networked with women clients in an elegant and inviting setting. In New Jersey, WWT hosts a reception in conjunction with the Women’s Association of Morristown Memorial Hospital’s Mansion in May Designer Showhouse and Gardens Tour. Offering our women clients and attorneys the opportunity to network in a beautiful setting with a tour of the work of renowned interior designers and landscape architects, the Mansion in May event is a wonderful springtime celebration.
WWT Is ... Client-Focused
As part of our continuing Breakthrough Series, WWT members host interesting speakers and involve our clients in these educational and enriching experiences. Breakfast Breakthrough topics have been "Making Work More Meaningful" with a professor from the University of Connecticut School of Law, who discussed "contemplative lawyering" and achieving mindfulness at work; a presentation by two Pulitzer Prize-winning biographers about their work chronicling the lives of Harriet Beecher Stowe and Henry Ward Beecher; and speakers on networking strategies for women, managing employee performance and other topics of interest.
An annual WWT Leadership Luncheon in Hartford features a moderated panel of prominent women in the Connecticut business community. The luncheon is designed to provide an opportunity for professional women to come together to discuss topics affecting professional women in Connecticut. Topics have included "Leadership," featuring Connecticut-based female chief executive officers; the "Future of Hartford," featuring female business, community and governmental leaders in Hartford; and "Women Business Owners."
WWT Is ... Community Service
Since its inception, WWT has enthusiastically supported the battle to understand, treat and cure breast cancer. WWT teams proudly participate each year in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in October in New Jersey, Hartford, Boston and Stamford, joining together to raise thousands of dollars in pledges to support breast cancer research. WWT also sponsored the 2006 Susan G. Komen Foundation’s Breast Cancer: Survive & Conquer symposium in Hartford. WWT hosts a holiday party for the young women in Hartford at The Shelter for Women, a nonprofit organization that provides a residential facility with resources and a caring staff, available to young women who are at risk.
WWT members proudly participate in a wide range of other civic, educational and cultural organizations in the communities served by the firm, often in leadership roles.
