Parsippany, October 28, 2020 - Rachel A. Gonzalez has been selected as one of the "Top Women in Law" by the New Jersey Law Journal. Lawyers were recognized for their excellence in their fields, with a special supplement to be published later this year to share more about the honorees, their accomplishments, and their insights.
Gonzalez was nominated for her leadership at Day Pitney in the field of Employment and Labor law. She serves as a Trustee for the Hispanic Bar Association of New Jersey ("HBA-NJ") for Morris, Sussex and Warren Counties, previously having served as the organization's press secretary. She also serves at the co-chair for the HBA-NJ's Women's Empowerment Leadership and the Law Conference. Gonzalez also mentors high school students through the HBA-NJ's Pipeline Program at Union City High School. In addition to her leadership and mentoring work with the HBA-NJ, she also serves as a delegate on the New Jersey State Bar Association's General Council. At Day Pitney she serves as the Firm-wide Hiring Chair, co-chair of the Day Pitney Attorneys of Color Network, and is a member of the Firm's Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
In addition to her service to the legal industry, she has been recognized by NJBIZ a recipient of its "Forty Under 40" award in 2017, New Jersey Law Journal (ALM Media Properties, LLC), as one of the "New Leaders in the Law" in 2016, the "Lawyers of Color's Inaugural Nation's Best" list in 2019, and selected to the list of the New Jersey Super Lawyers? Rising Stars (Thomas Reuters) for four consecutive years.
At Day Pitney, Gonzalez regularly partners with clients and serves as a strategic advisor on labor and employee relation issues. She represents employers during union election campaigns, collective bargaining negotiations, arbitrations, and before the National Labor Relations Board. She also provides clients with advice on strike preparations and during strike injunction proceedings, and advises corporations on workforce planning during business changes, including business sales, acquisitions, stock and asset purchases, and plant closings and relocations.
Gonzalez regularly counsels and trains employers on wage and hour issues, workplace investigations, the FMLA, the ADA accommodation process and compliance with other federal and state employment laws. She also regularly advises foreign corporations establishing U.S. operations on federal, state, and local employment and labor laws.
Prior to entering the legal profession, Gonzalez worked as a human resources professional in unionized and non-unionized facilities in the United States and Sweden. While in law school, she worked with the National Labor Relations Board in Hartford, Connecticut.
