On October 22, Day Pitney LLP and associate Rosendo Garza, Jr. were featured in an article, "The Good Fight: Meet Connecticut's Pro Bono Champs," published by the Connecticut Law Tribune. In recognition of National Pro Bono Week, the article highlights attorneys and law firms, including Day Pitney, that value pro bono. Garza, who served three tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan, told the Connecticut Law Tribune he leans on his military experience to find the time to juggle his Day Pitney responsibilities and the pro bono work that gives back to the community. "You have a job and you figure out a way to do it," he said.
As noted in the article, Day Pitney follows the American Bar Association standard requiring lawyers to serve clients who cannot afford representation by donating at least 50 hours per year to serve low-income clients, nonprofits and others who need their expertise. The article also mentions that Garza, who joined Day Pitney in September 2016, immediately sought out pro bono work. In 2017, he topped 300 hours, earning the firm's Coleman Award, and this year, he is on track to achieve a similar result.
