Leiha Macauley was quoted in an article, "As Women Gain Earning Power, A New Focus on Finances," in Banker & Tradesman. The article is about how saving for retirement is a salient issue for women because they tend to outlive their spouses, make less money over the course of their lives, are more likely to act as caregivers for elderly parents and are also likely to inherit more money. Macauley discusses the circumstance that in older generations family financial matters were often handled by men, which leaves women at a disadvantage in life changing situations such as divorce or a spouse’s death. "We see it quite frequently with widows and it adds an incredible amount of stress to an already stressful situation," Macauley said. "If you’re coming into unfamiliar territory and sitting down with a lawyer you may not have worked with before and now you’re filing the tax returns. … It’s a lot when you’re also dealing with the loss of a spouse."
