Overview

Michael Byrne is a commercial real estate attorney who advises institutional and private clients on complex transactions involving the financing, acquisition, disposition, leasing, and development of commercial real estate assets. He represents a broad range of clients, including institutional lenders, private equity investors, corporations, and nonprofit and mission-driven organizations.

Mike counsels clients across all major asset classes, guiding them through sophisticated financing structures, portfolio transactions, and development projects. His experience includes advising on the acquisition, sale, and financing of performing and nonperforming real estate portfolios; negotiating office, retail, and industrial leases; and supporting land assemblage and large-scale development initiatives.

In addition to transactional work, Mike serves as outside real estate counsel to clients ranging from privately held companies to utility companies and religious organizations, providing ongoing strategic guidance aligned with their business objectives.

In addition to his practice, Mike is the firm's Managing Partner and a member of the Executive Committee. In recent years, he was also the chair of the Real Estate, Environmental and Land Use Business Unit.

Represented a lender in a $556 million construction loan for a mixed-use (office and retail) high-rise development on Park Avenue in New York, involving a complex commercial real estate financing for a premier Manhattan project

Represented a life insurance company in a $390 million construction loan financing two multifamily residential towers on First Avenue in New York, one of the larger multi-family development financings in the market

Advised a life insurance company on a $315 million permanent loan for a multi-tenant office building on Madison Avenue in New York, involving a high-value commercial real estate financing in a core Manhattan corridor

Represented a lender in a $175 million permanent loan for a 500-unit high-rise multifamily project on Lake Shore Drive in Chicago, supporting a large-scale urban residential development

Served as lead counsel to a life insurance company on a $170 million portfolio mortgage loan secured by 33 industrial properties across Florida, involving a multi-asset commercial real estate financing

Acted as lead counsel to a life insurance company in a $399.5 million syndicated mortgage loan facility secured by 35 franchised hotels across eight states, coordinating a complex, multi-jurisdictional financing

Served as lead counsel to a life insurance company on a $400 million syndicated non-recourse mortgage loan secured by a 52-property portfolio of office and flex assets across New England

Represented the debtor in the recapitalization of a $650 million office building in Boston’s financial district, including restructuring the equity ownership and securing $430 million in new first mortgage financing

Developer’s counsel in connection with a mixed use development project in Fairfield County, CT with 128 luxury apartments, 110,000 square feet of Class A office space, and 102,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space
