Day Pitney Completes Merger With Howland Evangelista Kohlenberg

Firm Expands East Coast Presence into Rhode Island

Day Pitney LLP is pleased to announce the completion of its merger with Rhode Island-based law firm Howland Evangelista Kohlenberg LLP, a dedicated trusts and estates boutique handling complex and sophisticated planning, probate, and trust matters for high net worth individuals and families. Eight attorneys, including name partners Renée A. R. Evangelista and A. Max Kohlenberg, have joined the firm's Individual Clients department, growing its ranks to nearly 80 attorneys. The combined firm is retaining all of Howland Evangelista Kohlenberg's personnel, as well as the existing office in Providence. Evangelista will be the Managing Partner of the Providence office.

"When the opportunity came about to bring Howland Evangelista Kohlenberg onto our team we knew it would be a great fit in terms of the strategic values of our firm, practice areas, culture and geography," said Thomas D. Goldberg, Day Pitney's Managing Partner. "Renée and Max created the preeminent trusts and estates firm in Rhode Island, and we are delighted to be able to call them and their entire team Day Pitney colleagues."

With the completion of the merger, Day Pitney has nearly 300 attorneys and operates 14 offices along the East Coast. The firm services clients in the United States and internationally through its core departments: Individual Clients, Corporate and Business Law, and Litigation.

"We welcome Day Pitney to Rhode Island and look forward to the opportunities the firm and its clients bring to our state," commented Rhode Island Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea. "This merger is indicative of how Rhode Island is becoming a home for forward-thinking businesses committed to the economic development of our state, just as my office is."

In addition to Evangelista and Kohlenberg, the following attorneys have joined the firm's trusts and estates practice: Emma D. Becker, Claire N. Carrabba, Joshua R. Caswell, Leigh E. Furtado, Dana T. Pickard and Joshua Simon. Pickard, Simon and Carrabba are all admitted to practice in Florida, where the firm has offices in Boca Raton, Coral Gables, Delray Beach and West Palm Beach.

"Merging our firms will leverage and expand the experience, depth and breadth that both firms have in the private wealth category, while providing all of our clients with increased access to individual attention and innovative solutions," said Evangelista.

Day Pitney has one of the largest trusts and estates practices on the East Coast, and the firm's attorneys collectively have hundreds of years of experience helping clients to plan for the future. Both teams are highly ranked in the 2020 Chambers High Net Worth Guide, a Chambers and Partners publication specifically aimed at the international private wealth market. Additionally, Day Pitney won the 2021 U.S. News & World Report and Best Lawyers® "Law Firm of the Year," for Trusts & Estates Law, and was selected as the "Best Law Firm – Estates and Trusts" at the Private Asset Management Awards in 2020.
