Matrimonial and Family Law
Overview
The Matrimonial and Family Law practice group assists individuals and families in all aspects of divorce/marriage dissolution, including alimony/spousal support and child support, division of the marital estate, and custody/parenting time, as well as premarital and postnuptial agreements, paternity matters (children born to unmarried parents), and adoption proceedings.
With regard to divorce, we have significant experience in matters of valuation and distribution of assets, such as closely held businesses, partnership interests, retirement plans, pension plans and other deferred compensation plans, severance payments, golden parachutes, stock option plans, health insurance benefits, and executive perquisites.
Our clients receive comprehensive advice and counseling and benefit from the combined knowledge of the multifaceted disciplines of the firm's attorneys, including our Corporate, Real Estate, Trusts and Estates, Employee Benefits, and Tax practice groups. Our experience includes all aspects of litigation at the trial and appellate levels, as well as mediation.
LGBTQ+ Planning
In today's world, planning for your future and the future of your family and loved ones requires an understanding of your full range of legal rights, obligations and possibilities. For the LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and the spectrum of sexual orientations and gender identities) community, the law currently fosters uncertainty but also creates unexpected opportunities. Trying to plan for the future in our rapidly evolving legal landscape is a real challenge, but when properly executed, those plans can offer genuine security and freedom from fear of future problems.
The choices LGBTQ+ individuals and same-sex couples make can have a profound effect on their quality of life. Our attorneys will work with you to develop and review the information and advice you need to make the right decisions for you, your family and your loved ones.
Our attorneys have extensive experience in areas including pre- and postnuptial agreements and cohabitation agreements, co-parent adoptions, medical and end-of-life decision-making, and powers of attorney. When needed, they also can draw on the complete resources of our firm. They are uniquely positioned to counsel you in making and implementing the planning decisions unique to you and your circumstances.
