A Trusted Advocate

When Christina Livorsi was growing up, she loved going to court with her father, a solo practitioner in New Jersey. Watching her father advocate for his clients in court was an inspiration for Livorsi to pursue a legal career.

"That exposure to the legal work was a very important influence," she said.

A partner and litigator in Day Pitney's Creditors Rights department, Livorsi says she learned a lot from her father, including the importance of taking a position to help clients solve their problems. She also learned to listen to all sides while plotting-out effective strategies. Her ability to communicate effectively with judges, opposing counsel, and other parties is one of the many qualities that distinguishes her as a trusted litigator.

Livorsi represents lenders and financial institutions in disputes related to lending practices, loan origination, debt collection practices, loan servicing and deceptive business practices.

At Day Pitney, one of her first cases was a whistleblower case that reached a favorable plaintiff verdict following an eight-week trial. "That was definitely one of my proudest moment," she said. Thereafter, Livorsi segued into handling creditors' rights litigation.

Livorsi credits her career success with developing the ability to "know your audience." Whether it’s in her legal writing or when she's standing up to make an argument before a judge, Livorsi pays close attention to delivering the right tone and position to get the right point across. Whether she is working on a written motion or arguing before the court, Livorsi relishes any opportunity to take a position and present her clients' point of view.

"I really enjoy figuring things out and finding solutions for my clients," she said.

Livorsi is an aggressive advocate for her clients in court. But she also knows when to resolve issues short of trial through negotiations. "In my practice, I often work with self-represented parties on the other side of the issue, so it's important to know when to hold back a bit, in order to get the best results for the benefit of everyone involved," she said.

Livorsi's clients say they have great confidence in her instincts and skills.

When Livorsi is not writing a motion or presenting an argument in court, she enjoys using her legal advocacy skills to help others. She takes an active role in several pro bono efforts sponsored by the firm, including one that involves representing victims of domestic violence when seeking final restraining orders.
