"Hollywood on Trial: Images of Women in Law," Day Pitney's Women Working Together
On March 29, Day Pitney's Women Working Together® (WWT®) hosted a virtual event to celebrate Women's History Month with bestselling author Elizabeth Weitzman titled, "Hollywood on Trial: Images of Women in Law."
The event contextualized essential issues like gatekeeping, diversity, and inclusion through fascinating cultural and historical images of women in law. Using film and television portrayals that span a full century, Weitzman illustrated the dramatically varied ways popular culture has reflected and redefined our views of women in the workplace. The program began with the first media image of a working woman inside a courtroom, and ended by exploring the ways contemporary artists are teaching all of us to reject and reframe the biases still entrenched in professional narratives.
Weitzman is an award-winning journalist and speaker, and the bestselling author of more than twenty books on a wide range of subjects. Her most recent is "Renegade Women in Film & TV," which chronicles the remarkable hidden history of cultural pioneers. Weitzman was a film critic for the New York Daily News from 2000-2015, and currently covers movies for The Wrap. She has interviewed hundreds of celebrities, and written for publications like The New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Marie Claire, and Harper's Bazaar. To learn more about her work, click here.
