Day Pitney Attorney Stanley A. Twardy, Jr. was selected by the judges of the District of Connecticut as the second recipient of the 2023 Richard Law Award, which honors those who have rendered exemplary service to the federal court of Connecticut. Twardy, both a former United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut and former managing partner of Day Pitney, will accept his award at a special dinner that the Connecticut Bar Association's (CBA) Federal Practice Section is hosting in his honor on March 22 at the New Haven Lawn Club.
The Richard Law Award, named for the first district judge appointed in the District of Connecticut, is bestowed upon a person who has rendered exemplary service to the District of Connecticut. The award was inaugurated in 2018. The recipient is chosen by the judges of the District of Connecticut, one of the first district courts established by the Judiciary Act of 1789. This award is presented by the court in honor of the Bench and Bar.
"It is a tremendous honor to be presented with the Richard Law Award, as I have devoted my legal career both in public service and in private practice, to the pursuit of justice," commented Twardy. "I want to thank the Connecticut District judges for gracing me with this recognition."
Thomas D. Goldberg, Managing Partner of Day Pitney said, "Our firm has benefited greatly from Stan's leadership, both in and out of court. He is a consummate professional, and he is always ready to provide both strategic and thoughtful assistance whenever it is needed. I've worked with Stan for many years, and you would be hard-pressed to find a better partner and colleague."
Twardy, a former Managing Partner of Day Pitney, is a leading corporate litigator. His practice focuses on helping clients with criminal, civil and regulatory investigations conducted by federal and state agencies. His clients have included Fortune 500 companies, executives of these companies and others involved in federal and state criminal, regulatory and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) investigations. Twardy has argued many civil and criminal cases in both federal and state appellate courts. In addition, he has been counsel of record in several cases before the United States Supreme Court. Before entering private practice, Twardy was a United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut and Chief of Staff to Connecticut Governor Lowell P. Weicker, Jr.
Twardy earned his B.S. from Trinity College, his J.D. from University of Virginia School of Law, and his LL.M. from Georgetown University Law Center.
The CBA Federal Practice Section aims to disseminate information to Connecticut federal court practitioners to enhance their skills and awareness of legal or procedural developments affecting federal practice and to provide a forum for consultation and dialogue between the federal Bar and Bench on issues of rules and practice, personnel needs, and facilities. The section also reviews and responds to pending legislation affecting federal court practice.
