Day Pitney LLP announced that Naju R. Lathia has joined William ("Bill") J. Roberts as co-chair of the firm's Data Privacy, Protection and Litigation group. Lathia is a litigation partner based in the firm's New Jersey office.
"Naju's wide-ranging litigation knowledge coupled with her experience as a Financial and Cyber Crimes prosecutor is a natural pairing to the group's deep understanding of how corporations and businesses need to protect both their own and their clients data from intrusion." said Roberts. "Naju's appointment reflects our commitment to assisting clients with the full life-cycle of their data needs, from upfront compliance to robust litigation defense."
Lathia assists clients in a broad spectrum of areas, from litigating complex commercial matters in state and federal court to conducting sensitive internal and white-collar investigations. She also represents employers in a wide range of matters where she provides defense advice and representation to management when they are faced with criminal issues. Lathia frequently writes on legal topics, such as cybersecurity, cannabis law, and employment issues.
Prior to joining Day Pitney, Lathia gained invaluable trial and investigatory experience when she served as a Deputy Attorney General with the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General's Division of Criminal Justice, in its Financial and Computer Crimes Unit. In her role as a trial attorney, Lathia prosecuted and tried cases involving computer crimes, money laundering and financial fraud. Additionally, she worked on cutting-edge technology issues with several large companies and investigated cases involving cloud hacking and cyber fraud.
Lathia is the co-chair of the Law Partners section of the South Asian Bar Association of North America, and a member of both the Asian Pacific American Lawyers Association of New Jersey and the South Asian Bar Association of New Jersey, which recently named her the 2022 "Young Lawyer of the Year". Additionally, she was chosen as one of the "2021 New Leaders of the Bar" by the New Jersey Law Journal and was a recipient of Day Pitney's Coleman Award for outstanding pro bono work in 2018. Lathia earned her J.D. from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, and her B.A., summa cum laude, from Rutgers University. She is admitted to practice in New Jersey and New York.
