Tom Havens and Jennifer Galiette wrote an article, "Could Community Microgrids Be More Than Just A Fad?," for Law360. Additional research for the article was done by Samantha Bishop, a student at UConn Law School, during an externship with Day Pitney.
The article examines the opportunities and challenges microgrids present to the energy industry in the U.S. The article states that the speed and success of the potential proliferation of microgrids in the coming years will "largely depend on decisions currently facing policymakers surrounding the appropriate business models and incentives that are needed to facilitate microgrid development, and how best to address the various legal and regulatory barriers to microgrids deployment encountered by project developers and other stakeholders. With existing state and utility programs leading the way, microgrids should play a key role in shaping the nation's energy future."
