On February 3, 2024, the Association of Black Law Students (ABLS) at Rutgers School of Law – Newark recognized Day Pitney Associate Daniel Pierre at its 33rd Annual Jazz for Justice Gala. Pierre is one of three recipients recognized for the impressive accomplishments of Rutgers Alumni in the practice of law and the greater community. The other honorees included the Honorable Jamel Semper, U.S.D.J., and Vickie Donaldson.
Jazz for Justice is ABLS's annual flagship gala. Every year, ABLS invites the legal community to celebrate with Rutgers Law students, alums, faculty, and community partners in an evening of jazz, art, and food. For more information on the event, click here.
"I am grateful to be selected as an honoree for Jazz for Justice," said Pierre. "A commitment to justice, service, and community engagement has defined my journey since law school. This recognition is a testament to the power of collaboration, mentorship, and our shared responsibility as legal professionals to positively impact our academic and broader communities."
Pierre is an associate in the Employment and Labor practice and the Cannabis practice group and a resident in the firm's New Jersey office. He has experience representing management in employment and traditional labor matters. Pierre also provides legal counsel and strategic advice to entrepreneurs seeking licensure in New Jersey's adult-use cannabis industry. Pierre also gives his time and talents to perform pro bono legal work for various initiatives and programs. He serves as a Trustee for Rutgers Law School Newark Alumni Association and was a 2021 Lead New Jersey Fellow. Pierre also serves as a Co-Chair of the Labor & Employment Committee of the Garden State Bar Association. He is a founding member of the National Association of Black Cannabis Lawyers. He earned his B.A. from Seton Hall University and his J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law – Newark, where he was the Editor-in-Chief of Rutgers Race & the Law Review.
Pierre was introduced and presented the honoree award by Natalya G. Johnson, Immediate Past President of the Garden State Bar Association and Senior Counsel at Johnson & Johnson.
