Day Pitney partners Elizabeth Sher and Susan Huntington are recipients of Profiles in Diversity Journal's 18th Annual "Women Worth Watching" Awards, which recognize esteemed women leaders and acknowledge their talents, commitment, achievements and leadership. Their profiles are published in the Summer 2019 issue of Profiles in Diversity Journal.
Ms. Sher, Day Pitney's General Counsel and leader of its Complex Commercial Litigation practice group, is highly involved in various firm-wide initiatives for women, diversity and inclusion, and mentoring. For many years, she chaired the firm's professional development committee, expanding internal and external training opportunities for lawyers at all levels. Externally, for over 20 years, she has served as a program director and faculty member for the National Institute of Trial Advocacy's training programs. In addition, she is in line to become president of the Association of the Federal Bar of New Jersey in 2021 and sits on the Lawyers Advisory Committee to the New Jersey federal court.
In Ms. Sher's profile, which can be viewed here, she offers women professional guidance on leadership: "…[T]he most effective path to making good decisions and becoming a leader is to surround yourself with people you respect, listen attentively, question respectfully, gather enough information to understand your options, make the best-informed decision you can with the available information and guidance, and then move on confidently to the next one."
Ms. Huntington, chair of Day Pitney's Healthcare, Life Sciences and Technology practice group, has a unique background that includes over ten years in patient care before transitioning into healthcare law. She is actively involved in the firm's women's initiative, "Women Working Together," where she has planned programs for attorneys and clients supporting their professional growth and development. Outside the firm, Susan serves as Vice-Chair of the Enterprise Risk Management Task Force for the American Health Lawyers Association, and is actively involved in the Connecticut Technology Council's Women of Innovation Awards, which recognize women accomplished in science, technology, engineering and math.
In Ms. Huntington's profile, which can be viewed here, she reflects on outdated attitudes about women in the workplace: "People make assumptions about external attributes and we should not give those assumptions life by internalizing them…Don't take on these stereotypes, don't internalize, and don't feed into outdated attitudes. Don't let others define who you are. And be the change agent who make things better for those who follow."
Each year since 2002, Profiles in Diversity Journal has profiled women who have attained leadership positions within their organizations. The Women Worth Watching Awards recognize the change makers and leaders who have recorded outstanding achievements throughout their career.
