Day Pitney Supports Freedom for All Massachusetts' Yes on 3 Business Coalition
Day Pitney LLP is pleased to announce that it has joined leading businesses across the state in support of the Yes on 3 campaign run by Freedom for All Massachusetts. The broad coalition, including hundreds of businesses, community and faith organizations, unions, and professional associations, is working to uphold the existing civil rights and nondiscrimination protections for transgender people that was signed into law by Governor Charlie Baker in 2016. The law is now on the ballot to be repealed. Day Pitney was among the first Boston area law firms to support the Yes on 3 campaign, by making a $5,000 contribution and saying "YES" to upholding these basic protections.
"Day Pitney fosters diversity and inclusiveness both within the firm and the communities it serves," said Alex P. Garens, an attorney in Day Pitney's Boston office who is a member of the firm's Diversity & Inclusion Committee and co-chair of the Day Pitney Alliance, which promotes awareness and support of LGBTQ causes and concerns. "We are proud to support the Yes on 3 campaign and our transgender friends, family and neighbors."
In further support of the campaign, Day Pitney recently hosted a Gay and Lesbian Advocates and Defenders (GLAD) Equal Justice Council briefing at the firm's Boston office. Nearly 40 attendees, including GLAD members along with Day Pitney attorneys and staff, heard from GLAD's directors on the background and current state of the campaign. In addition, members of the firm attended a campaign breakfast briefing, hosted by Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey, to discuss the stakes of the campaign and make the call to action in the final weeks before the election.
