Position Summary

The Senior Manager, Financial Reporting & Partnership Accounting serves as a key finance leader for the firm, responsible for monthly financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, management analytics, and partner-related financial reporting. This role also oversees partnership accounting and partner tax coordination, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and alignment between firm financial results and partnership economics. The Senior Manager works closely with firm leadership, practice group leaders, and external advisors and manages a Financial Analyst and Partnership Accountant.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare and deliver monthly financial reporting packages for firm leadership, including income statements, key performance indicators, and variance analyses.
  • Produce ad hoc financial analyses and reports in response to leadership, practice group, and management requests.
  • Develop clear, concise management presentations and PowerPoint materials to communicate financial results, trends, and insights.
  • Ensure accuracy, consistency, and timeliness of all internal financial reporting.

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Lead the firm's annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes, incorporating practice performance, staffing assumptions, and partnership economics.
  • Partner with firm leadership to analyze results against budget and forecast, identify trends, and highlight risks and opportunities.
  • Support long-range planning and scenario analysis as needed.

Partnership Accounting & Compensation Reporting

  • Oversee partnership accounting activities, including partner capital accounts, distributions, and compensation-related reporting.
  • Prepare and analyze partner compensation and profitability reporting, ensuring alignment with partnership agreements and firm policies.
  • Serve as finance liaison for partner tax reporting coordination, including data support for K-1 preparation, tax estimates, and related partner inquiries, in collaboration with external tax advisors.
  • Ensure partnership-related financial information is accurately reflected in firm reporting.

Business Intelligence & Reporting Optimization

  • Compile and manipulate data from financial systems into Excel and reporting tools to analyze key metrics and trends.
  • Identify opportunities to improve reporting efficiency, automation, and insight, and implement enhanced reporting approaches and dashboards.
  • Support peer and industry benchmarking by preparing comparative analyses of legal industry metrics, surveys, and external data sources.

Special Projects

  • Participate in special projects and firm initiatives as assigned such as insurance renewals.

Team Leadership

  • Manage and mentor a financial analyst including work assignment, review, and professional development.
  • Provide oversight and mentorship to the Partnership Accountant while driving continuous improvement of partnership accounting processes.
  • Establish best practices for analysis, documentation, and reporting within the FP&A/finance function.

Systems & Tools

  • Work extensively with the firm's financial systems, including Aderant (or equivalent legal accounting system).
  • Utilize Excel at an advanced level for modeling, analysis, and reporting.
  • Experience with business intelligence and analytics tools (e.g., Iridium BI or similar) strongly preferred.

Qualifications

  • CPA required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • 7–10+ years of progressive experience in finance or accounting, preferably within a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and management analytics.
  • Prior exposure to partnership accounting and partner-related tax matters strongly preferred.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring staff.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret, summarize, and clearly communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

Compensation & Benefits

This position offers a compensation range of $160,000 to $180,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, skills, and qualifications. Staff may also be eligible for discretionary year-end bonuses and annual merit-based increases.
