Provider Settles FCA Case Over AWVs Performed By Pharmacists, Billed Under Physician Names
As healthcare organizations rely more heavily on third-party vendors, the risks tied to those relationships continue to grow. In Report on Medicare Compliance, Day Pitney Partner and Vice Chair, Corporate, Intellectual Property & Technology Business Unit William Roberts highlighted the importance of maintaining clear visibility into vendor relationships and limiting them to those that are truly necessary.
He noted that risk centers on who has access to sensitive data and how vendor relationships are structured. Limiting access to protected health information is critical, and contracts must be precise—particularly around breach response, data use and disposal—where vague terms can create exposure and disputes. Ultimately, Roberts emphasized that as vendor networks expand, effective risk management requires tighter controls and stronger oversight.
