Overview
Kathleen "Kathy" Monnes is a partner in Day Pitney's Insurance and Reinsurance Disputes practice group. She represents insurance companies and brokers in a wide variety of matters involving claims under life, health, and property and casualty policies. She has extensive experience representing clients in connection with disputes over coverage, unfair trade practices, and bad faith. She has appeared on behalf of clients in both state and federal courts in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York, South Carolina, Vermont, and West Virginia. Kathy has also represented and advised insurance companies in matters pending before state regulators, including issues relating to the change of control of domestic companies, licensing, and defense of market conduct reviews and consumer complaints. She holds a leadership position as the managing partner of the firm's Hartford office.
Experience
Defense of an insured's claim for insurance coverage for millions of dollars in asbestos losses; the matter was resolved through summary judgment in favor of the insurers; the Connecticut Supreme Court recently affirmed that judgment, resulting in a finding of no liability on the part of the insurers
