Prenups cover more than just marriage and divorce

Day Pitney Private Client Partner Melissa Rodriguez spoke with USA TODAY about integrating prenuptial agreements into a broader estate plan. She discussed how a prenup can address rights automatically granted to a surviving spouse under state law that might otherwise affect how assets are distributed. Rodriguez also underscored the need to coordinate the agreement with wills, trusts, beneficiary designations, and business succession documents so they support the same intended outcome and do not create disputes after death.
