Florida Supreme Court Clarifies Qualifications for Court – Appointed Arbitrators
Day Pitney Litigation Department Chair Manuel Garcia-Linares was featured in the Daily Business Review article, "Florida Supreme Court Clarifies Qualifications for Court – Appointed Arbitrators." Garcia-Linares commented that the state Supreme Court appeared to be saying, "We want somebody with legal expertise which has been practicing for at least five years to be the chair of this panel."
"The parties can agree to appoint someone who may not be a Florida lawyer but is admitted to practice law in another jurisdiction," Garcia-Linares added. "The rest of the panel can consist of others, because if you look back at the non-redlined language, you can see what the intent was. It's about clarifying those qualifications."
