Day Pitney LLP has announced that the attorneys in its Washington, D.C. office are the recipients of the firm’s 2022 Coleman Awards, which recognize recipients for their dedication to pro bono service.
The Coleman Awards are given by Day Pitney annually to legal professionals whose commitment to pro bono and public service exemplify the highest ideals of the legal profession and preserve the legacy of Cyril Coleman, a former Day Pitney partner who served many public institutions and causes and who was known for his dignity, sound judgment, and integrity.
"On behalf of the firm, I congratulate the attorneys in our Washington, D.C. office for their dedication to pro bono. They understand the meaning of giving back to our communities and how attorneys can contribute their time and talents to be change agents for the greater good," stated Theresa Kelly, chair of Day Pitney’s Pro Bono Committee.
2022 Coleman Award Recipients
Associates Taylor C. Amato, Sophia Browning, and Margaret Czepiel, and Partners Joseph H. Fagan and Evan C. Reese III worked with the Council for Court Excellence, a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the justice system in the District of Columbia. The Day Pitney team worked with the Council for Court Excellence in drafting two reports based on round-table forum discussions on emerging criminal and youth justice topics in the District. Further, as the District of Columbia explores options to transition several aspects of its criminal justice system, including the parole authority, to locally rather than federally controlled systems, the team continues to work with the Council for Court Excellence and other local partners to reimagine the parole system in the District and to present a set of draft regulations to create and direct a locally controlled parole body.
Steven A. Cash, Counsel, has also been honored with a Coleman Award. Over the years, Cash has been a role model, generously mentoring many Day Pitney associates on challenging pro bono matters, and has demonstrated a tireless commitment to achieving excellent results for the firm’s pro bono clients.
