PARSIPPANY, N.J., December 22, 2014 - Day Pitney announced today that Michael K. Furey has joined the firm's Parsippany, N.J., office as a partner in the Commercial Litigation department. Furey is a seasoned business litigator and appellate strategist. He joins Day Pitney from Riker, Danzig, Scherer, Hyland and Perretti in Morristown, N.J., where he started his practice out of law school.
"I am very excited to be joining Day Pitney," said Furey. "Over the course of my career, I have stood across the aisle from them and the firm's strong reputation is rightfully deserved. I am familiar with its depth of experience in complex commercial litigation, corporate and other commercial areas of practice and I know it will provide the clients I serve with a broad set of skills that they need, as well as a stronger platform for my practice."
Furey has focused his practice on commercial litigation and employment matters in federal and state courts with extensive jury trial and appellate experience. He also maintains an extensive commercial litigation practice specializing in disputes relating to partnerships, corporations, the sale of businesses, trade secrets, restrictive covenants and attorney-related disputes.
"We are fortunate to have a litigator of Mike's caliber join our firm," said Stanley A. Twardy, Day Pitney's Managing Partner. "He is a highly skilled trial lawyer with excellent credentials, which are reflected in his accolades and involvement and leadership in community and professional organizations."
Since 2005, Furey has been ranked among New Jersey's leading employment lawyers by Chambers USA: America's Leading Business Lawyers, which noted his "strong litigation experience and commercial outlook" and called him a "top trial lawyer," who is "smart, good on his feet and good before a jury." In Law & Politics magazine, he was named one of New Jersey's "Super Lawyers" for his work in business-related litigation matters and one of New Jersey's top 100 lawyers for the past seven years.
Furey presently serves as chair of the Supreme Court's Disciplinary Oversight Committee. He is a member of the Board of Legal Services of New Jersey and the Lawyers Advisory Committee for the federal courts. Mike is also a former President of the New Jersey Ballet.
Furey earned his B.A. from Dartmouth College and his J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. He is admitted to practice in New Jersey.
"Mike is widely regarded as one of the top business litigators in the State of New Jersey and we're excited he's decided to join our firm," said Dennis LaFiura, Litigation Department Chair and based in Parsippany. "We think he will be an incredible asset to our expanding trial team capabilities."
Furey joins Day Pitney on the heels of the firm's recent hiring of four lateral partners and a counsel from Bingham McCutchen. In addition, the firm announced that it will promote seven new partners at the beginning of the year, including two litigators, Marco Anzalone and J. Andres Mayor, in its Parsippany office.
