(HARTFORD, December 17, 2013)--Day Pitney partner Paul Belval, chair of the firm's Renewable Energy and Infrastructure Development and Investment and Mergers & Acquisitions practice groups, has been elected president of the Northeast Energy and Commerce Association (NECA), New England's oldest and most broadly-based, non-profit trade association serving the energy industry.
"Because of its broad-based membership and commitment to information exchange, NECA has been a catalyst for understanding and innovation in the electric power industry," said Mr. Belval. "I am honored to assume the duties of president and I am looking forward to working closely with members to continue our important mission and commitment to networking and information exchange."
NECA's 1,000 members, representing 140 entities, include developers and owner/operators of competitive power projects, both regulated and merchant transmission and distribution companies, power marketers and traders, fuel and equipment suppliers, power consumers, and various service providers to the power industry, including law firms, investment bankers, environmental engineering and economic consulting firms.
Mr. Belval has represented developers, investors, equipment suppliers and power purchasers involved in a variety of renewable power and fossil fuel facilities, including the development, financing and restructuring of those facilities. In addition to NECA, he is also affiliated with the American College of Investment Counsel, where he is a fellow; the Energy Bar Association; the Connecticut Bar Association, Public Utility Law Section; the American Bar Association, Section of Public Utility, Communication and Transportation Law, Renewable Energy Resource Committee; the Connecticut Bar Foundation, where he is a James W. Cooper fellow; and the American Bar Foundation, where he is also a fellow.
