Warren Whitaker will participate in an upcoming panel discussion, "COVID-19's Ethical and Legal Practice Implications." The discussion, which is being presented by the New York Historical Society's Planned Giving Advisory Council, will be held via Zoom on October 22, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. ET.
The panelists will spot the key ethical risks presented in the tumultuous times created by the global COVID-19 pandemic. They will examine the duties of supervision, competence, communication and confidentiality, with a focus on lawyer incapacity and the need to protect client property. The panel will also highlight the relevant rules of professional conduct and bar association guidance, and suggest practical solutions to avoid ethical violations. They will also discuss what law firms need to do to accommodate virtual legal practice, the advantages and challenges to virtual legal practice, and what changes in law have permitted virtual practice to flourish.
