Wills for Veterans

On Thursday, November 8, in honor of Veterans Day, a group of Day Pitney Boston trusts and estates attorneys volunteered for the second annual "Wills for Veterans" pro bono event sponsored by the Mass. Chapter of the Federal Bar Association (FBA) and the Massachusetts Department of the Jewish War Veterans of the United States of America. At the event, which was hosted in the firm's Boston office, Amy Lonergan, Glynis Ritchie, Rebecca Tunney, Heather Harris and Jordana Schreiber met one-on-one with veterans and their spouses to provide them with wills, powers of attorney and health care proxies as well as to answer basic estate planning questions. Boston trial partner Jonathan Handler attended and coordinated arrangements in his capacity as President of the Mass. Chapter of the FBA. This day of service was a huge success, with veterans from all over Massachusetts attending the event.

In a special appearance, the event began with remarks and awards presented by the Adjutant General of the Massachusetts National Guard, Major General Gary Keefe, who expressed his deep appreciation for the firm's efforts. He presented Boston trusts and estates partner Leila Dal Pos with the Department of the Army Commander's Award for Public Service in recognition of Leila's enormous efforts over many years to provide legal services and support to servicemen and women across the Commonwealth.

General Keefe also presented the firm with a plaque given "In appreciation of [Day Pitney's] service and support to the Soldiers and Airmen of the Massachusetts National Guard." Finally, General Keefe presented each Day Pitney lawyer with a 2-star "challenge coin," which is given in recognition of "superior performance."
