Energy Specialist
Day Pitney LLP is seeking an experienced Energy Specialist to support its busy Energy Regulatory group to work out of the firm's Washington, D.C. office. The position is hybrid with 3 days in office per week required and 2 days remote work allowed. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with experience in Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) practice and procedure, including eTariff filings, and strong skills in energy transaction support, document management, and administrative litigation support. Paralegal certification is a plus but is not required for this role. Responsibilities include:
- Preparing, reviewing, and filing documents with FERC, including both general eFilings and eTariff filings using Systrends
- Assisting with state regulatory proceedings
- Assisting with energy transaction document management and organization
- Performing proofreading, legal cite-checking, and quality control review of filings, correspondence, and other legal documents
- Preparing and formatting legal and transactional documents for filing and distribution
- Coordinating and preparing exhibits, appendices, and related supporting materials
- Managing deadlines, tracking filing requirements, and helping maintain matter organization
- Providing general practice support for energy regulatory and transactional matters including maintaining internal filing checklists, templates and best practices and managing workflows
- Basic regulatory research (e.g., familiarity with FERC's eLibrary docketing system, checking deadlines and filing requirements in the Code of Federal Regulations)
- Tracking changes to FERC procedures, filing requirements and eTariff standards
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree
- Prior experience supporting an energy regulatory, energy transactional, or related legal practice
- Demonstrated experience with FERC filings, including eTariff filings (prior experience with Systrends, Tariff Shark, or a comparable eTariff filing XML-conversion software is required)
- Experience with (or willingness to learn) the appropriate use of generative AI tools for research and to make work processes more efficient and effective
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and document management systems such as SharePoint, FileSite, etc.
- Setting and using Microsoft Word Styles to ensure consistent formatting across documents
- Familiarity with administrative litigation support processes, including the FERC Rules of Practice and Procedure
- Excellent attention to detail and strong written communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Compensation & Benefits:
This position offers a compensation range of $110,000 to $120,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, skills, and qualifications. Staff may also be eligible for discretionary year-end bonuses and annual merit-based increase.
