Conn.'s Proposed AI Rule Not A Shock To Attys
Day Pitney Intellectual Property Partner Jonathan Tropp was featured in Law360 weighing in on Connecticut’s proposed rule targeting AI-generated errors in court filings and what it signals for attorneys using emerging technologies. Tropp, who serves on the firm’s AI committee, noted that the proposal underscores the duty to verify AI-assisted work, a responsibility already firmly embedded in the legal system.
“I would say that it’s ironic, in fact, that our court systems, the bastions of the development of the common law, have concluded that they need a positive rule to accomplish what is very clearly already within their power,” Tropp said. His comments highlight that, even as courts respond to the rise of AI, longstanding professional obligations and safeguards continue to guide legal practice.
