AI could cause a power shortfall
Day Pitney Partner and chair of the firm’s Energy practice, Sebastian Lombardi, was recently featured in The Deep View article, “AI could cause a power shortfall.”
In the piece, he explains that the rapid growth of AI data centers is driving unprecedented demand on the U.S. power grid. While the strain is currently concentrated in certain regions, Lombardi notes that reliability and affordability challenges associated with the AI data center build out could expand nationwide. He emphasizes the importance of an “all of the above” approach—integrating renewable, nuclear, and emerging energy solutions—to sustain progress.
As he notes, “We all want the lights to stay on. We may have to get away from picking winners and losers if we're going to meet the pace and the magnitude of demand.”
