Brendan Butler Joins Day Pitney Employee Benefits Practice
Day Pitney LLP is pleased to announce that Brendan J. Butler has joined the firm as Counsel in the Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation practice. The addition of Butler further strengthens the firm’s ability to deliver exceptional guidance and innovative solutions, ensuring our clients can continue to navigate the complexities of employee pension and welfare benefit plans, and executive compensation arrangements with confidence and precision. He is based in the firm’s Hartford office. This is the firm’s third senior attorney hire to its Tax and Benefits team in the last six months, Amy Drais and Ryan Leichsenring joined in 2024.
“Brendan brings both technical skill and experience in complex benefits and compensation matters, making him a valuable addition to our Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation practice,” said R. Scott Beach, chair of Day Pitney’s Corporate and Business Law department. “We are excited to welcome him to the firm and to our Hartford office, where his contributions will strengthen our services and support our clients’ evolving needs.”
At Day Pitney, Butler will focus his practice on employee benefits, advising private, public, and governmental employers on a wide range of matters related to retirement plans, welfare benefit plans, deferred compensation plans, and retirement benefit issues. He has experience representing clients before the Internal Revenue Service and the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC), working closely with them to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Additionally, his work included negotiating with the PBGC to reduce financial liabilities, de-risking pension plans, structuring deferred compensation arrangements, and drafting comprehensive plan documents.

He earned his J.D. from University of Connecticut Law School with honors and B.S., summa cum laude, from Providence College. He is admitted to practice in Connecticut.
