Overview

James "Jim" Sicilian, a trial and appellate lawyer, represents private and public businesses in diverse industries in complex commercial disputes. He handles antitrust, commercial contract, unfair trade practices and probate matters. Jim has represented both plaintiffs and defendants, ranging from multinational, Fortune 500 corporations to closely-held companies and individuals.

In the 2015 edition, Chambers USA noted that Jim "retains his reputation for advising financial institutions on complex commercial disputes, including class actions." In 2014, Chambers USA quoted sources describing Jim as "excellent - careful, knowledgeable, and good at preparing for different scenarios and thinking about how they might play out."

Jim served as law clerk for The Honorable Thomas J. Meskill, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

Experience

Defended a major software company in a closely followed action alleging infringement of a "business method" patent relating to Internet auctions

Defended a large retail chain against antitrust and unfair trade practices allegations relating to retail site development activities

Defended a multinational pharmaceuticals manufacturer against claims for trade secret misappropriation under the "inevitable disclosure" doctrine in connection with alleged use of information obtained during joint venture negotiations

Represented a physician network joint venture in connection with claims brought by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Connecticut Attorney General alleging monopolization of physician and hospital services

Prosecuted claims for violation of the Federal Anticybersquatting Consumer Protection Act and the Federal Trademark Dilution Act on behalf of a respected catalog mail-order company in its efforts to protect its tradename from Internet piracy
