New Jersey Cases Attorneys Are Watching in 2024
Day Pitney Litigation Partner Paul Marino was featured in Law360's article titled, "New Jersey Cases Attorneys Are Watching in 2024."
Marino, Day Pitney's NJ Office Managing Partner, commented on a case involving LegalZoom.com Inc. and Garden State resident Ryan Erasmus. He stated that Erasmus' case will require the court to consider what it means to practice law and noted that the New Jersey statute on the unauthorized practice of law does not actually define the term. According to Marino, how "practice of law" is defined by the court will have far-reaching ripple effects in the Garden State.
He added, "Though not necessarily implicated by the Erasmus complaint, the question of what constitutes the 'practice of law' in New Jersey is extremely relevant as lawyers continue to grapple with questions surrounding the appropriate use of artificial intelligence to assist in the provision of legal services."
