Day Pitney Trusts and Estates Attorneys Warren Whitaker and Sarah Gelfand were featured in the Jezebel article, "'Gunther's Millions' Begs the Question: Are You Prepared to Leave a Fortune to Your Pet?" in which the two covered the growing trend of pet trusts.

Whitaker stated, "All 50 states now have a law that permits you to create a trust for your pet. Now, with the statute in place, there is less risk of nefarious actors."

Gelfand discussed a 2014 New York ruling determining that a deceased woman's decision to leave her home and a million dollars to her cats was legitimate, "She created a very clear plan" that the courts decided they couldn't digress from.
