Comments on Federal Judicial Retirements and Appointments

Judge Christopher Droney, former Second Circuit Judge was interviewed by Westlaw Today's Alison Frankel about the role of politics in judges' decisions about stepping down, how courts treat senior judges and his own experience since he has left the court.

Droney explains that in the last four years it has been more political when the requirement to have 60 votes to confirm was abolished, now requiring only 51. The interview touched on topics like pressure for justices to step down when a particular political party is in power or to take senior status or retire.
