Dennis Kearney was quoted in an article, "Trump's US Atty Pick For NJ Will Have Christie's Imprint," published in Law360. The article discusses that Gov. Chris Christie is expected to play a pivotal role in selecting New Jersey's next U.S. attorney. With that in mind, Christie is likely to suggest someone he "knows and trusts," Kearney told Law360. Christie was virtually "unknown" to the criminal defense bar and had been a fundraiser for George W. Bush when the then-president nominated him as New Jersey's U.S. Attorney in 2001, Kearney noted. "He's in a unique position of having been in that job [of federal prosecutor], and I don't think he's going to have high on his list somebody who is politically connected in the way he was," Kearney said. The new prosecutor Christie would likely choose is apt to be "politically connected in the sense that the governor can vouch for [him or her] in the simplest terms," but not in the sense that he or she was, say, a major fundraiser for the president, Kearney said.
