Jim Bowers was mentioned in an article, "Harvard Corporation agrees to retire HLS shield," in Harvard Law Today. Bowers was appointed by Dean Martha Minow to a committee to evaluate whether Harvard Law School should continue using its shield. The committee, made up of faculty, students, alumni and staff, recommended to retire the HLS shield, which is modeled on the family crest of an 18th century slaveholder and founding benefactor of the Law School. The Harvard Corporation approved the committee's recommendation.
