The Day Pitney Attorneys of Color Network (DPAC), the minority attorney affinity group at Day Pitney LLP, is pleased to report that the firm's lawyers and staff donated a large number of suits and other business attire as part of a recent clothes drive to benefit men and women in need of business clothing. The group sponsored the event in each of the firm's nine offices, collecting more than 200 items of clothing.
DPAC was formed in September 2010 with a goal of fostering an inclusive environment that helps to ensure the success of Day Pitney's minority attorneys. DPAC also serves as a venue for minority attorneys to exchange ideas, provide support for each other and address the unique challenges faced by minority attorneys in the legal profession. The suit and business clothes drive was the group's first community event, with similar initiatives to be held in the future. DPAC is chaired by Shawn Wooden, a partner in Day Pitney's Hartford office, and co-chaired by Eli Salcedo and Nexus Sea, associates in the Stamford, CT, and Parsippany, NJ, offices, respectively.
The clothing that was collected benefited two organizations: Dress for Success Hudson County, located in Jersey City, NJ, and Hartford Job Corps. Dress for Success helps disadvantaged women become economically independent by providing them with professional attire, a network of support and tools to help them succeed professionally and personally. Dress for Success also partners with Career Gear and Suits for Success whose similar missions include professional business attire donations for men. Hartford Job Corps provides students, often from disadvantaged backgrounds, with the clothing and skills needed to succeed in the workforce. It holds periodic career fairs for students with an opportunity to select donated business attire before entering the workforce.
