Connecticut Releases Municipal Aid from Tribal Fund Early in Response to Effects of COVID-19 Outbreak

On Wednesday, March 18, Governor Lamont ordered the Office of Policy and Management to release to all municipalities, the second of three annual payments from the Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan Fund. The order was made as part of the efforts taken by the State to assist municipalities in combating the effects of the novel coronavirus, or COVID-19, outbreak. The State appropriated $51,472,796 for the fund in the FY 2020 budget and payments to the municipalities were to be distributed to municipalities in three equal installments on January 1, April 1 and June 30. Municipalities should anticipate receiving the April 1 installment no later than March 23.

The Department of Revenue Services has extended deadlines for filing and payments associated with certain state business tax returns. Details are on DRS's website.

The Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development has created a COVID-19 Business Emergency Response Unit committed to assisting businesses navigate resources and develop new resources. A dedicated phone line has been set up at (860) 500 2333 to provide assistance to Connecticut's small businesses for this purpose. Inquiries to state agencies also can be made by e-mail to COVID19.jic@ct.gov.

On March 19, Governor Ned Lamont announced that he is ordering Connecticut's 2020 presidential primary election be rescheduled to Tuesday, June 2, due to the ongoing public health crisis caused by COVID-19.
