January Roundtable Breakfast, Boston Estate Planning Council
On January 26, Day Pitney Private Client Partner Alisa Hacker is speaking virtually at the Boston Estate Planning Council's January Roundtable Breakfast on alimony. Her session is titled, "And the Alimony Award Goes to… Understanding Modifications, Changes in Recent Case Law, and the Ability to Pay." This discussion will be an overview of the standards for an award of alimony and the parameters for the amounts and duration of an alimony award initially at divorce, and the circumstances necessary for a modification of the amount, duration or an outright termination of alimony under the Alimony Reform Act of 2011 and subsequent case law. Hacker will also discuss the interplay of child support and alimony, now that alimony is no longer tax deductible under the expanded child support guidelines of 2021 and recent case law. Finally, the presentation will give an overview of cases where a buy-out of alimony may be appropriate.
