Beth Barton, one of NEWIEE's founders, a member of NEWIEE's Board of Directors and currently NEWIEE President, co-anchored the program, which included introducing Gina McCarthy, former Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, former CT DEEP Commissioner and former Deputy Secretary, MA Office of Commonwealth Development, and the recipient of the 2017 NEWIEE Board Special Recognition. Other Gala honorees were Marcy Reed, President, National Grid-MA; Anne George, VP, External Affairs and Corporate Communications, ISO New England; Meredith Hatfield, Program Officer, Clean Energy, Barr Foundation; and Tamika Jacques of the MA Clean Energy Center. The Keynote speaker was Maryrose Sylvester, President and Chief Executive Officer of Current powered by GE.
David Doot was quoted about the event in a recent NEWIEE newsletter, saying, "I have had the distinct pleasure of participating in NEWIEE events over the years and encourage participation by all. This annual gala in particular through the years has honored some true leaders in the field who really help us all appreciate the remarkable contributions of women in energy and the environment. The NEWIEE events overall provide outstanding networking opportunities for energy and environmental industry professionals of all levels and both genders. The NEWIEE Gala is clearly among the best networking events for those of us in the energy and environmental industry!"
