Current Themes in State Brownfields Redevelopment

Beth Barton will be leading a roundtable discussion on "Current Themes in State Brownfields Redevelopment" at the National Brownfields Training Conference being held in Pittsburgh from December 4-7. The conference, co-sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the International City/County Management Association (ICMA), is the largest event in the nation focused on environmental revitalization and economic redevelopment. It attracts more than 2,000 environmental and economic development officials, finance and insurance providers, planners, attorneys and many others interested in community revitalization.

Barton will lead roundtable discussion with Sue Boyle of GEI Consultants, Inc., and Executive Director of Brownfield Coalition of the Northeast (BCONE) and the NYC Brownfield Partnership. They will lead a session in the exploration and expanded discussion of common hot topic issues shared by multiple states and stakeholders in the recent Brownfield Coalition of the Northeast (BCONE) survey. The collaborative discussion topics will focus on looming stresses on current state funding for brownfield cleanup and redevelopment projects; the nexus of brownfield redevelopment on combined sewer outfalls (CSOs) in urban centers and managing storm water during and after site development; and the management of fill, reuse of historic fill, and clarification to the Beneficial Use Determination Process.
