Day Pitney Sponsors Criminal Justice Film Screening, Dinner and Discussion at Fordham Law

Day Pitney will sponsor a screening of The House I Live In at Fordham Law School on April 29. The event was organized by partner Jim DeVita, who is a member of the Criminal Justice Act Panel for the Southern District of New York, an organization which helps provide counsel to indigent defendants in criminal cases in Federal court.

The House I Live In received the Sundance Grand Jury Prize for documentary in 2012 and takes a critical look at U.S. drug policy and the criminal justice system. It includes commentary from notable figures including U.S. District Judge Mark Bennett and David Simon, the author of Homicide and the creator of The Wire. Jim has assembled a diverse panel to discuss the film, including Rich Zabel, Deputy U.S. Attorney in the SDNY; the Honorable Vincent Briccetti, U.S.D.J. in White Plains; Tony Ricco, CJA Panel representative for the EDNY; Melinda Shopsin, the lead producer of the film; and Gabriel Sayegh, State Director, NY Drug Policy Alliance. David E. Patton, Executive Director and Attorney-in-Chief, Federal Defenders of New York, will moderate. The 6:30 p.m. screening will be preceded by dinner at 5:30; attendance at both is free.
