Erick Sandler practices in the areas of complex business disputes and shareholder and securities litigation. Erick has handled large scale litigation matters for national and local clients, including financial institutions, insurers, manufacturers and suppliers, energy companies, nonprofit organizations, and individual clients. Erick's experience includes matters involving breach of contract, fiduciary duties, unfair trade practices, trust and estate disputes, land use disputes, bankruptcy, antitrust and tax disputes. Erick also represents clients in matters involving the Connecticut Attorney General's Office and regulatory agencies.
In addition to his trial practice, Erick is chair of the firm's Appellate practice group and has handled appeals in federal and state courts.
Erick has litigated constitutional claims, including successful First Amendment challenges to the application of state lobbying and electioneering laws.
Erick also has represented parties in trials under the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction. In recognition of his trial and appellate advocacy, Erick received a Connecticut Bar Association Pro Bono Award.
Representation of REMIC trustee in pursuing veil-piercing and fraudulent transfer claims to collect multimillion dollar judgment. Member of trial team that in December, 2012 obtained a favorable jury verdict on the veil-piercing claims and award of punitive damages after seven-week trial
Defense of majority owner and president of corporation engaged in the wholesale of trophy and award components against minority shareholders' claims of mismanagement and self-dealing. Successfully moved to dismiss action, resulting in dismissal of all claims with prejudice
Defense of trustees of family trusts holding assets worth several hundreds of millions of dollars against beneficiary's claims for breach of fiduciary duty and conflicts of interest arising from trustees' positions as officers and directors of public company
Representation of helicopter manufacturer in trial and appeal that established client's entitlement to sales and use tax exemption for research and development equipment used in manufacturing aircraft parts and components
Defense of private equity investor against putative class actions brought by shareholders of company acquired by client
Defense of global defense, security and aerospace company against putative class action brought by shareholders of company selling business to client.
Representation of Roman Catholic diocese in successful constitutional challenge to application of state lobbying laws
Representation of individual in successful constitutional challenge to application of electioneering laws to clothing worn by voters at polling places
