Professional Experience
Jonathan Handler's practice in complex commercial litigation involves the representation of corporate clients in tort and contract disputes, with an emphasis on large-scale commercial and insurance-related matters. He has represented and advised clients in state and federal courts in Massachusetts in a wide variety of disputes, including matters involving unfair and deceptive trade practices, securities, tortious interference, insurance subrogation, and complex products liability.
- Represented aerospace subsidiary of Fortune 100 company in successful defense of tortious interference claim in U.S. District Court; after extensive discovery, the court granted our client's motion for summary judgment
- Represented major insurance company in complex bad faith claim arising out of payment of life insurance proceeds; after multiple superior court judges had ruled against our client (then represented by predecessor counsel), the Massachusetts Appeals Court reversed and vacated, ruling that our client had not engaged in any unfair or deceptive practices
- Represented major insurance company in complex tort action seeking to recover for failure of prestressed concrete piles that led to the collapse and condemnation of waterfront office building; after extensive discovery and mediation, we obtained a favorable settlement for our client
- Represented insurance company in an effort to recover from borrower that had reneged on agreement to consummate a private placement transaction; the case was settled on terms favorable to our client on the day of the trial
