In Memoriam

April 15, 2009 - It is with great sadness that the attorneys and staff of Day Pitney mourn the passing of our beloved partner Yukio Kashiba. Yukio passed away April 15 after a battle with cancer. Yukio, who joined Day Pitney in 2002, was a member of the firms Intellectual Property practice in the New York office. He was a loyal colleague, an excellent attorney, and a great friend. His death was unexpected and he will be missed by all who knew him. Yukio is survived by his three adult children.

Mr. Kashiba was a member of the firm's Intellectual Property Department. His comprehensive experience includes litigating patent infringement actions; negotiating complex licensing and other agreements between Japanese and American companies, and advising with respect to patent, copyright, trademark, and competition law matters. He represented clients in a wide range of industries, including games, TV, home appliances, personal computers, semiconductors, mobile telecommunications, and Internet. Mr. Kashiba was a lecturer for the Japan Intellectual Property Association in Tokyo, and the co-author of Worldwide Intellectual Property published by Diamond Publishing in Japan. He spoke frequently in Japan and the U.S. on intellectual property issues such as cross-cultural influences in business negotiation and differences between Japanese and American intellectual property laws.
