John Nolan in the Hartford Courant: "Westfarms' Owners Agree to $34 Million Settlement With Blue Back"

The Owners of Blue Back Square in West Hartford will receive $34 million in compensation as a result of a negotiated settlement with a rival retail competitor. Blue Back had sued rival Taubman Centers, Inc. - the owner of the nearby Westfarms Mall - and other Westfarms partners for construction delays and other costs as a result of lawsuits they had backed to postpone the opening of Blue Back.
"The lawsuits pushed them right into the downturn," Blue Back attorney John Nolan of Day Pitney's Hartford office said Monday. "By the time they opened Crate & Barrel [in October 2007], the economy was in trouble. Plus there was a big spike in construction costs during the delay."
