Jed Davis was quoted in an article, "'Click Fraud' Trial To Test Reach Of Feds' Cybercrime Powers," in Law360. The article reports that a "first-of-its-kind" criminal trial has just begun in federal court in Brooklyn. The defendant, Fabio Gasperini, is an extradited Italian national who has been indicted on charges of operating a global "click fraud" scheme in the U.S. and elsewhere, powered by a botnet that he created by hacking and co-opting computers worldwide. The article describes the case as "a pivotal test of the government's ability to tie individuals to complex cybercrimes that are growing in both size and sophistication." Davis, who served as an assistant U.S. attorney in Brooklyn for nearly a decade, including as the cybercrimes lead, described the case as "a classic Eastern District of New York prosecution in which there's been a lot of hard work going into establishing a complex case that in some way touches on the district." Davis added, "This shows the office is prepared to go where the defendant is, whether he's in the U.S. or elsewhere. That said, every trial has some risk."
