Day Pitney LLP today announced that partner Stanley A. Twardy Jr., a former United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, has been named the firm's new managing partner, effective April 2.
"I'm very pleased to congratulate Stan on his new role as managing partner," said Dennis R. LaFiura, chair of Day Pitney's Executive Committee. "His leadership style combines high-level analytical ability with genuine people skills, and aligns perfectly with Day Pitney's ongoing commitment to delivering top-quality legal services to our clients."
As managing partner, Twardy will be responsible for preserving and promoting the firm's culture and engaging with external constituencies. The firm also elected Thomas D. Goldberg and Daniel L. FitzMaurice, who will work with Twardy to oversee the day-to-day operations of the firm. These three positions will operate as part of a seven-person Executive Board.
In addition to serving as U.S. Attorney for Connecticut from 1985 to 1991, Twardy was chief of staff for Connecticut Governor Lowell Weicker from 1991 to 1993. As a member of Day Pitney's White Collar Defense and Internal Investigations practice group, Twardy has defended Fortune 500 companies, executives of these companies, and others in federal and state criminal and regulatory investigations. In recent years, as a result of his efforts, the Department of Justice declined to bring criminal charges against two companies, one an international financial services business and the other a Fortune 100 company, which had allegedly engaged in accounting fraud. Twardy earned his LL.M. from Georgetown University, his J.D. from the University of Virginia and his B.A. from Trinity College.
"I am truly excited by the prospect of taking on this new challenge with my partners and the entire Day Pitney team," said Twardy. "The firm is sharply focused on top results and client satisfaction, and I look forward to enhancing Day Pitney's reputation in these two areas."
