The Day Pitney Foundation

Our Mission
Promoting positive developments in the law, legal scholarship, and legal education, in local, national, and international environments.  More generally to promote community education, through financial contributions and the volunteer efforts of the firm and its personnel.

Types of Projects
The Day Pitney Foundation sponsors projects that include:

  • legal and education initiatives targeting lawyers, future lawyers, and other professionals alike
  • consulting initiatives involving research, analysis, and commentary on specific law-related topics

Day Pitney Foundation sponsorship is in the form of grant support to other charitable organizations, "hands-on" in-kind support, or a combination of grant funding and in-kind support.

The Civic Commitment of Day Pitney LLP
All labor of Day Pitney LLP personnel dedicated to Foundation projects is donated. Total hours volunteered by both legal and nonlegal staff average in excess of 2,000 annually. In addition to this support and the financial contributions made to the Foundation by the Partners of Day Pitney, the firm also gives back to our local communities in many other important ways.

Examples include:

  • Hartford High School Academic Promise College Scholarship Program, in partnership with the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving
  • Habitat for Humanity House, Elmer Street, Hartford, Connecticut, in partnership with Greater Hartford Habitat for Humanity
  • "Citizen Schools" teaching program under the auspices of the Boston Bar Association and the federal courts in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • Volunteer support at numerous events benefiting nonprofit organization in the Stamford, Connecticut community, including Christmas-in-April, the March of Dimes, and programs of The Volunteer Center of Stamford
  • Founding signatory to the American Bar Association's "Pro Bono Challenge," a program to increase attorney hours devoted to providing legal services to persons of limited means and grass roots community organizations
  • Time donated by Day Pitney LLP personnel through service on a wide variety of community boards and professional organizations

How to Propose a Project for Sponsorship
Any project that promotes positive developments in the law, legal scholarship or legal education could become a Day Pitney Foundation-sponsored initiative. Generally, the Foundation does not fund unsolicited grant proposals. However, ideas regarding possible future educational or consulting initiatives in keeping with the Foundation's law-focused mission may be submitted to:
